Dr. Hitoshi Kaguchi has served as Senior Executive Vice President since April 2023. He was also appointed Head of GX Solutions between April 2024 and March 2025. Dr. Kaguchi continues to direct MHI’s energy transition efforts, having led this business previously as Energy Systems President & CEO from April 2021 to March 2023. His current responsibilities are closely aligned with MHI’s Mission Net Zero strategy, which he was instrumental in developing as Chief Strategy Officer between April 2019 and March 2023.
Prior to his corporate roles, Dr. Kaguchi focused on nuclear plant design for over 30 years, serving as Director of the Nuclear Plant Component Designing Department from 2008 to 2012. Upon joining MHI in 1984, he started his career as a reactor vessel designer for advanced nuclear plants. He has also worked on component design in nuclear fusion and light water reactors with an emphasis in structural analysis and integrity assessment.
Dr. Kaguchi earned a Bachelor’s degree (1982) and Master’s degree (1984) in Nuclear Engineering from the University of Tokyo in Japan. From 1991 to 1994, he attended the University of London’s Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine (Imperial College London), and earned a Doctorate of Philosophy in Mechanical Engineering.
