Joren joined the Belgian Foreign Affairs Ministry in 2014 as part of an internal training programme. After working on the EUs Internal Energy Market, he joined the Foreign Service and served for 3.5 years in the Democratic Republic of Congo, where he worked as economic advisor at the Belgian Embassy in Kinshasa. He focused in particular on the Congolese mining sector and the minerals powering the worldwide shift towards renewable energy. In the summer of 2020, he joined the Belgian Embassy in Tokyo as head of the economic and trade section.

Joren holds a Master’s Degree in European Studies from the Catholic University of Leuven, with a specialization in EU foreign policy. While working at the Ministry, he completed a number of additional trainings including a summer school on energy in Baku, Azerbaijan.
